California’s 4th-largest cave is about to reopen after a long hiatus
A major tourist attraction in Sequoia National Park that has been closed for the past four years will reopen this summer, and tickets to visit it go on sale Monday.
Crystal Cave, which is on the Chronicle’s list of the top places to visit in California this year, is a three-mile-deep marble cavern located a short drive from the famous giant sequoia known as General Sherman. It’s California’s fourth-largest cave and has been available to tour since the 1940s. The 50-minute guided walking tour takes visitors past countless stalactites and through a striking vaulted area known as the Marble Room.
